USAG Xcel Girls

 The Colorado Xcel Program?

The Colorado USAG Xcel Gymnastics Program is a competitive program that is sanctioned by USA Gymnastics.  It is a less intensive program than the Junior Olympics Program of USAG.  It is designed to provide a broad-based, affordable competitive experience outside the traditional Jr. Olympic Program to attract and retain a diverse group of athletes.

History of the League

The league was originally formed in 1993.  Known as the Colorado EAGLES (Elementary Artistic, Gymnastics League and Education System), the program has always been dedicated to providing friendly competition and improving gymnastics skills while seeking to foster self-esteem and sportsmanship.  In 2011, the league became sanctioned under USA Gymnastics in the PREP Op Program (Poise, Rhythm, Execution, Presentation).  USA Gymnastics changed the program name from PREP Op to Xcel in 2012.  Today the Colorado program boasts over 2,100 gymnasts from almost 50 member clubs.

Encore’s Program

The Encore Xcel gymnasts train and compete on all four events – floor exercise, beam, uneven bars and vault.  Gymnasts progress through various compulsory and optional levels of competition.  In compulsory Bronze and Silver divisions, gymnasts perform standardized routines on all four events.  For Gold, Platinum and Diamond gymnasts, individualized routines are developed incorporating the skills appropriate for each event level.  Training is year-round with the competitive season typically running fro January through April for the three upper levels and from March to June for the Silver and Bronze divisions.  Gymnasts in the Xcel program typically practice two to three nights per week with a training regimen that generally runs between 6 to 10 hours per week.  This less intensive schedule allows for gymnasts to participate in other activities, be it dance, soccer or piano.

The Silver and Bronze teams prepare for the season with a formal mock meet.
